Serve the one who enlisted you

March 2013 is the scheduling apocalypse of the kidmin world: there are 5 Sundays in the month, the last week is Spring Break, there is an extra service on Good Friday AND the last Sunday is the busiest day on the church calendar – EASTER! To say this month is packed full is an understatement!

Sometimes it feels like the weight of your responsibilities are going to crush you – you probably feel it right about now! This long-lingering snow has kept your family in cabin fever mode for too long, there is stress from your job, you have to take kids to swimming lessons, your family needs supper each day and not to mention the stuff that you do around the church all require your time. When you hit that wall, it feels like the only option you have is to stop doing anything that isn’t related to just “getting by.”

I hear ya. I feel it too, and this is the time of year where Satan will try to leverage everything he can to distract you from the call that Jesus has on your life. Satan can’t take you out of the embrace of the Father, but he can distract you with lies, difficulties, discouragements and things that drain you so that you become ineffective.

Remember the charge that Paul gave to Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:3-4 “Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them.”

Stand strong against the Devil, and remember that this time of year, he is on the defensive because he is reminded of the day almost 2000 years ago when even death was defeated by Christ. Press on, and remember to serve the one who enlisted you!
